While exploring the great outdoors, camping toilets can prove themselves to be a wonderful thing to have for a perfect camping trip. Besides being a big stress reliever a camping adventure can be a fun and inexpensive way to experience what nature has to offer in it’s purest form. When camping with a group of people, be it friends or family, a certain connection between the participants is formed which as a result brings us closer together. Camping can be compared to a team sport since everybody has to do their job in order for the experience to be fulfilling.

Camping Outdoors

Considering the great benefits that nature exploration can bring us it’s unusual to see that not so many people choose to go camping more often. The biggest concern for a major part of people is the lack of clean toilet facilities. This problem can be easily avoided by using portable camping toilets.

Camping toilets enable you to feel a certain sense of freedom and independence since your exploring range is not limited by the accessibility of a toilet facility. The use of camping toilets is especially invaluable at night because you don’t have to find your way around in the middle of the night just to get to the toilet facilities. Since a lot of camping sites are not well lit at night finding the restroom can be a really scary experience.

Camping toilets are compact and portable enough to be taken anywhere so besides camping you can take your camping toilets to some other big events like NASCAR races and concerts. It’s true that the organizers of such big events hire a couple of portable restrooms but we all know in what kind of shape those hired portable toilets can get. At first they’re all clean and tidy but it doesn’t take a lot of time for those toilets to become really dirty. For a pleasant experience outside your house camping toilets are a must have.

We can define luxury camping equipment as items you can live without, but wouldn’t want to. Sure some hardcore minimalist campers are going to argue that the gadgets described in the post below are defeating the whole purpose of the overall camping experience but I digress. A lot of people today want to visit the great outdoors for a couple of days, away from all the hassle of their daily lives but at the same time enjoy the comfort of the “civilized” world like a warm shower in the
morning.

My story was that I didn’t like nor dislike camping but since I had this thing for personal hygiene I had to shower at least before going to bed, so that I wouldn’t have that nasty feeling of stickiness/discomfort while sleeping. This stickiness shall we say was the result of sweating and in case you don’t wash it off you can become a real insect magnet (mosquito bites, tics, etc.) since insects are attracted in most part to emanating body odors. This was the worst part of camping for me, having to deal with mosquitoes and the sticky feeling.

Then one time, just a few days before me and my friends went on camping I decided to search the internet for a convenient camping shower that will help me solve my problem. I purchased the camping shower I thought to be the best for my needs…a simple black plastic bag that holds 5 gallons of water with a simple nozzle to control the water direction and an on/off valve. This camping shower needs to be filled with water and left on the sun for the water to heat up so that at the end of the day, when you’re ready to hit the sheets you have 5 gallons of relatively hot water for your showering need. Needless to say I was very happy that I could go to sleep clean and fresh!

Besides camping showers there are other camping gadgets that can make our camping experience more wholesome. So without further ado here they are:

#1 Camping Showers – Do I need to explain why camping showers are awesome? :)

#2 Camping Toilets – These “luxury” camping gadgets are perfect for people that are unable to poop in the wilderness or have trouble (find disgusting) using campsite toilet facilities. Camping toilets come in various shapes and sizes and are primarily divided into simple and complex camping toilets. Simple camping toilets are usually made out of a chair with a hole in the middle of the seat, which makes them really light weight and portable. On the other hand we have complex camping toilets that are more robust since they have a storage tank for water and waste (separate of course). One of the most interesting facts about these camping toilets is that they can flush the waste.

#3 Camping Stove – In case you sometimes have difficulties lighting up a fire (I know this can be really frustrating) camping stoves are an awesome camping equipment to bring with you. With butane gas stoves there’s simply no hassle at all when you need to prepare your meal. This could actually be put into the “essential camping equipment” group.

#4 Water Bottle With Filter – The practicality of these bottles makes them ideal for our luxury camping equipment. A bit bigger than a regular plastic bottle it offers you repeatable usage with the water cleaning action. Not all water is safe to drink while you’re camping so by carrying this item with you, the chances of you contracting a not welcomed illnesses or something like that is vastly reduced. There’s nothing worse of you catching a nasty illness while on your camping trip.

#5 Portable Camping Chair – I wouldn’t go camping or to any event without this chair. It is very comfortable to sit in and the pop-up side table is great! In the morning it holds my coffee cup and a good book. At lunch, my plate of food and a can of soda. It is easy to tote wherever you go. These chairs are very sturdy and comfortable. I highly recommend them.

So if you feel that your current camping trips are lacking some much needed comfort, check out these camping gadgets and I’m sure you’ll be as happy as I am now.

It’s definitely a great thing to have some extra money left every month, so you can indulge yourself with stuff or activities that make you happy.

Probably the best thing you can do with your money is invest it in things, that will in some way or another, help reduce the negative human impact on our planet. I know this may sound a bit “tra-la-la-ish” but if you think about it, we feel most satisfied with ourselves when we’re doing good things, like helping people out when they’re in difficulty. Why not help our planet?

In the search for camping toilets, that will make you feel that you’re single handedly saving the world, I’ve come across a company that produces self contained composting toilets. They are very compact which makes them easy to store almost anywhere in the house…not to mention they can also be great camping toilets.

They are designed to harness, optimize and accelerate the natural processes of decomposition and evaporation to convert toilet waste (which is 90% water) into a useful, nutrient-rich fertilizing soil. They can be perfectly used for cottages, pool houses and any facility without facilities, which makes them ideal camping toilets.

I would say that the best thing about these composting toilets is that they don’t use any water for flushing the waste, don’t need to be connected to any septic system and best of all they don’t pollute. In case you grow your own tomatoes, the compost can be used as a great fertilizer…just watch your organic home grown tomatoes grow. I also forgot to mention that is ODORLESS, what more can you ask for :)

The price of these babies usually ranges between $1,300 to $1,800 dollars. Sure they are expensive but if you ask me they are worth every darn penny. With these as your camping toilets you’re killing two birds with one stone. Not only do they enable you to feel like at home as far as the usage of toilet facility is concerned, but they also help you eliminate your impact on nature since there’s no need for odor reducing chemicals to be added and surely there are no plastic bags involved…plastic, nature’s dreaded archenemy.

Considering how much drinking water gets flushed every day (7 billion+ gallons only in USA) I guess that the acquisition of a composting toilet is one of the best if not the best possible idea to reduce this insane waste. We got only one chance with this planet…let’s do something about it!

Almost everybody loves the sensation of freshness you have when going to sleep just after taking a shower. This tends to be even more important while we’re camping. It’s vital that after a long day of hiking you are able to take a warm relaxing shower that will help you fall asleep more easily.

Although most camp sites offer some rudimentary bathroom facilities there are some other alternatives available. If you’re unable to clean yourself up then at least change your clothes before going back to bed since uncleaned you emanate body odors more intensely which a lot of insects find very attracting. As stated before there is an alternative to campsite showers/bathrooms and these are camping showers.

Privacy while taking a shower is a big concern for a lot of people while camping. That’s why a lot of campers choose to bring with them their own camping showers with shower tents even though there are shower facilities available at the campground. The beauty of the portable camping showers is that they allow you to clean yourself literally anywhere.

Usually a camping shower consists of a plastic black bag that holds the water, a nozzle which directs the flow and also controls the intensity. The bags are usually black in color since they are primarily heated by the sun. The main disadvantage of these camping showers is that they rely on the sun to heat them up so in an event of a cloudy day there is a chance of you taking a shower in cold water. It’s possible to use gas powered or battery powered camping showers which reduce the waiting for each usage of hot water. Systems like these are especially useful for families while on a camping vacation.

Another alternative for the hot water can be heating up the water in camping stove by using fire. Usually water heated in a camp stove is enough, you don’t need to spend hundred dollars for an expensive electric camping shower. On average camping showers can hold up to 5 gallons of water so you need to be really quick in order to clean most of yourself before the water is gone. It’s a good idea to practice your showering before going camping. On the other hand you’re going to become really efficient while showering…saving precious water is a noble thing.

Camping showers will change your world for the better while camping since personal hygiene must not be neglected no matter what. There’s a lot of various camping showers that you can choose from but the main thing to consider here are your needs. If money is no object to you then go ahead and get yourself a gas or battery a powered camping shower. For most people regular sun powered camping showers are the way to go.

Camping toilets come in different shapes and sizes and there is not something like a best camping toilet out there. It usually depends on the persons needs and priorities what kind of camping toilet are they going to choose.

Camping toilets can be divided mainly into two main groups, these are complex and simple.

The main difference between these two types is the degree of portability. Since complex camping toilets are bulkier and more intricate in design, they can be a bit heavy so they’re not a good choice for people that like hiking a lot. They are best suited for campers that like just to hang around their camp HQ. Complex camping toilets are very nature friendly since the waste is collected in a large waste container so that it can be safely removed in areas that are not near to a river or something like that.

Simple camping toilets are usually very light weight so they are easy to carry around. They are usually cheaper than their bulkier cousins and use a waste bag to catch the feces.

Since simple camping toilets are pretty straight forward (a simple chair with a hole in the middle of the seat), I’m going to concentrate more on the complex camping toilets.

So the anatomy of an excellent camping toilet is as follows:

  • First and foremost it should be portable enough so it can be taken anywhere (this one is kinda obvious). The more compact the design the better.
  • Secondly, it should have a piston type flushing system so that the waste can be easily transported into the waste tank. We don’t want anythingto be floating around.
  • One of the most important elements that every camping toilet should have is an easy-to-read level indicator on both fresh water and waste holding tanks. You do want to know when the waste tank needs to be emptied…you don’t want to be surprised here in a negative way.
  • The most important part of an excellent camping toilet is that it must be odor and leak proof. When you get the purchased camping toilet be sure to test it for leaks, by using water only. This way you’ll have just water leaking instead of the waste…which is a good thing. If you’re unlucky be sure to immediately contact the vendor to get a replacement.

In my opinion these are the main elements that make an excellent camping toilet.

Hope you find this information useful.

Pooping is usually a neglected part of our daily lives. We usually come into the bathroom do our “thingy” and then after about 30 minutes we flush the toilet and leave to experience the rest of the day.

Since this area of our life is so neglected it’s not that strange that a lot of sinister health problems can arise because of this (hemorrhoids, intoxication, bowel inactivity, etc.). It’s vital for people to be more aware of this topic (that’s why I created this site).

I have to admit, that the modern day camping toilets and toilets in are not perfectly designed to meet our physiological needs while pooping. What I mean by that is, if we look for example how people do their stuff in China, Japan or other Asian countries, most of the time you’ll see them squatting while taking a poop.

Squatting while pooping has a lot of advantages, the most important one being complete elimination…this means everything is going to come out in a single shot. Other advantages are reduced hemorrhoids, less auto intoxication, adrenal burnout, etc.

Squatting is an anatomically better (if not the best) position to take while pooping. Although this is true, a lot of people don’t like this kind of stance since it’s uncomfortable for their knees after a couple of minutes squatting.

The good thing about modern camping toilets and toilets in general is that they offer us some comfort while taking a poop. In order to preserve this level of comfort and still achieving a anatomically better position, which resembles a squatting stance, you can place a rigid box underneath your feet. The box should be high enough so when you place your feet on it, they should be a bit lower than your butt (big props to Sean Croxton from Underground Wellness).

This way, you’ll have the best of both worlds…comfort plus complete elimination. What more can you ask for :)

Hope you find this information useful cause my pooping experience was enhanced ten fold.

Have you ever experienced the most unpleasant surprise of a camping experience? You are probably wondering what that could be…well I’m talking about the camping bathrooms. If visiting national parks, most of them have very spartan toilet facilities that are more often than not ill mantained and not very clean. On the other hand, irritated skin or even worse badly scratched skin caused by using a fallen timber as a “natural” toilet seat/support is a common thing if camping in the middle of a wilderness.

Camping toilets are probabbly the best possible solution for avoiding unpleasant camping bathroom experiences. Depending on your situation there are several camping toilets to choose from. More lightweight, folding camping toilets are best suited for people wishing to make long distance hikes from their campsites. These types of camping toilets utilize a waste bag that can be connected to the folding chair in order to catch the body waste. Be sure to station the camping toilet away from the camp site since odor control is a mayor issue with these types of camping toilets.

Bulkier camping toilets with more attributes are ideal if going camping with an automobile or a mobile vehicle. When you need to get rid of the fecal matter it is possible to use the flushing with water action or for certain camping toilets it’s also possible to use a chemical compound. Because of their size these types of camping toilets are more suitable for people that like to utilize the car for their camping journeys.

No matter what style of camping toilet you prefer, you’re going to be better of with them than without them. A great deal of information about camping toilets is available on the internet and there are also lots of online stores you can choose to buy from. Just be sure to get one that suits your needs.
